Interiors 1900 initially manufactured reproduction Art Deco and Art Nouveau figurine lamps. Manufacture was later sub contracted to a local company allowing the business to develop new products and source from suppliers with additional skills. The company introduced a wide range of traditional lamps including high quality intricate “Empire” designs, art glass products and Art Deco styles. It also decided to enter the Tiffany market with a clear goal to create the best Tiffany style lamps on the market. It soon became famous in the industry and established itself as the market leaders in Tiffany style lamps, a position it still enjoys.
Copying of Interiors 1900’s designs soon became a problem. The company actively defends its intellectual property and several actions were taken against companies blatantly copying new designs. The company also joined ACID, to protect itself against further infringement.
Interiors 1900 became an active member of the Lighting Association in 1989. It adopted the Association’s Code of Practice to ensure the safety of its products and so that customers can show that they can demonstrate due diligence when they buy products for resale. Independent inspectors have been appointed to monitor the quality of our products produced by sub contractors and also ensure that the strict safety and testing procedures of the Code of Practice are followed.
Interiors 1900 entered the Continental market in 1997, showing first at the French Lighting show in Paris. After the demise of this show, Interiors has been a regular exhibitor at the exclusive “Maison & Objet” show in Paris. Interiors has also shown in trade shows in Hanover and Cologne. Both the French and German shows attract buyers from all over the world. As result Interiors has customers not only in the UK and France, but throughout the rest of Europe and across the world.
The company out grew its premises and moved to larger and more appropriate premises in Northamptonshire in 1999. From there it distributes its designs to retailers and designers all over the world.
In the last decade, Interiors 1900 has broadened its approach by using its experience in traditional techniques of manufacturing quality lighting to produce new modern classics and develop new ideas in contemporary lighting. The company contracted French, USA, Australian and UK designers to ensure the supply of excellent new designs at a price most households can afford. Most design is now carried out in house by the in house design team. The skill of the designers is demonstrated by the winning of several awards, including two for best product at the UK Lighting Show.
